Razine oceana sada rastu ritmom od približno 3 milimetra na godinu, ali bi se ritam mogao utrostručiti na 10 milimetara svake godine sve do 2100., stoji u studiju objavljenoj u ponedjeljak u listu Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States (PNAS).

Rezultati tih radova temelje se na podacima koje su prikupljali sateliti tijekom 25 godina.

Oni su "u skladu s projekcijama iz izvješća AR5 (koje je u 2014.) predstavio UN-ov stručni panel za klimu (GIEC)", navodi se u studiji.

"To ubrzanje izazvano je prvenstveno ubrzanim otapanjem Grenlanda i Antarktika i moglo bi potencijalno udvostručiti ukupnu razinu oceana do 2100., što je novost u odnosu na projekcije koje su polazile od načela da će rast biti konstantan", kaže glavni autor studije Steve Nerem, profesor aeronautičkog inženjerstva na Sveučilištu u Coloradu. 

S tim rastom koji se svake godine ubrzava, razine oceana narasle bi više od 60 centimetara do kraja stoljeća, kaže profesor Nerem.

"I naravno, to je oprezna procjena", upozorava. 

Klimatske promjene uzrokuju rast oceana putem dva fenomena: ubrzano otapanje leda na polovima i povećanja razine ispuštanja plinova s učinkom staklenika u atmosferu.

Ovaj drugi fenomen odgovoran je za rast temperature voda, jer topla voda manje je gusta od hladne i zauzima više mjesta. Taj mehanizam već je odgovoran za polovicu od konstatiranih sedam centimetara koliko je razina mora narasla u promatranih 25 zadnjih godina, kaže profesor Nerem. 

"Ova studija skreće pozornost na važnu ulogu koju mogu imati podaci prikupljeni satelitima jer oni potvrđuju projekcije o klimi", rekao je koautor studije, John Fasullo, klimatolog u Nacionalnom centru za istraživanje atmosfere.

Razine oceana sada rastu ritmom od približno 3 milimetra na godinu, ali bi se ritam mogao utrostručiti na 10 milimetara svake godine sve do 2100., stoji u studiju objavljenoj u ponedjeljak u listu Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States (PNAS).

Rezultati tih radova temelje se na podacima koje su prikupljali sateliti tijekom 25 godina.

Oni su "u skladu s projekcijama iz izvješća AR5 (koje je u 2014.) predstavio UN-ov stručni panel za klimu (GIEC)", navodi se u studiji.

"To ubrzanje izazvano je prvenstveno ubrzanim otapanjem Grenlanda i Antarktika i moglo bi potencijalno udvostručiti ukupnu razinu oceana do 2100., što je novost u odnosu na projekcije koje su polazile od načela da će rast biti konstantan", kaže glavni autor studije Steve Nerem, profesor aeronautičkog inženjerstva na Sveučilištu u Coloradu. 

S tim rastom koji se svake godine ubrzava, razine oceana narasle bi više od 60 centimetara do kraja stoljeća, kaže profesor Nerem.

"I naravno, to je oprezna procjena", upozorava. 

Klimatske promjene uzrokuju rast oceana putem dva fenomena: ubrzano otapanje leda na polovima i povećanja razine ispuštanja plinova s učinkom staklenika u atmosferu.

Ovaj drugi fenomen odgovoran je za rast temperature voda, jer topla voda manje je gusta od hladne i zauzima više mjesta. Taj mehanizam već je odgovoran za polovicu od konstatiranih sedam centimetara koliko je razina mora narasla u promatranih 25 zadnjih godina, kaže profesor Nerem. 

"Ova studija skreće pozornost na važnu ulogu koju mogu imati podaci prikupljeni satelitima jer oni potvrđuju projekcije o klimi", rekao je koautor studije, John Fasullo, klimatolog u Nacionalnom centru za istraživanje atmosfere.
