Papua Nova Gvineja zabilježila je prvu pojavu polia - dječje paralize - u 18 godina, objavili su u ponedjeljak vlada i Ujedinjeni narodi.

Prvi slučaj zabilježen je krajem travnja kod 6-godišnjeg dječaka iz pokrajine Morobe, sjeveroistočno od glavnog grada Port Moresbyja. Tri tjedna kasnije je potvrđeno da se dječak zarazio poliovirusom tipa 1.

Prošli tjedan je američki Centar za kontrolu bolesti otkrio prisutnost virusa kod još dvoje djece iz dječakovog susjedstva.

"Vrlo smo zabrinuti ovim slučajem polia u Papui Novoj Gvineji i činjenicom da virus cirkulira", kazao je ministar zdravstva Pascoe Kase.

Pokrivenost cjepivom protiv dječje paralize u toj zemlji je niska i iznosi 61 posto. Bolest se ne može izliječiti, ali se može spriječiti cjepivom.

Papua Nova Gvineja je od 2000. bila na popisu zemlja bez prisutnosti te teške bolesti, a sada se pridružuje Afganistanu, Pakistanu i Siriji koje se bore sa slučajevima dječje paralize.

Papua Nova Gvineja zabilježila je prvu pojavu polia - dječje paralize - u 18 godina, objavili su u ponedjeljak vlada i Ujedinjeni narodi.

Prvi slučaj zabilježen je krajem travnja kod 6-godišnjeg dječaka iz pokrajine Morobe, sjeveroistočno od glavnog grada Port Moresbyja. Tri tjedna kasnije je potvrđeno da se dječak zarazio poliovirusom tipa 1.

Prošli tjedan je američki Centar za kontrolu bolesti otkrio prisutnost virusa kod još dvoje djece iz dječakovog susjedstva.

"Vrlo smo zabrinuti ovim slučajem polia u Papui Novoj Gvineji i činjenicom da virus cirkulira", kazao je ministar zdravstva Pascoe Kase.

Pokrivenost cjepivom protiv dječje paralize u toj zemlji je niska i iznosi 61 posto. Bolest se ne može izliječiti, ali se može spriječiti cjepivom.

Papua Nova Gvineja je od 2000. bila na popisu zemlja bez prisutnosti te teške bolesti, a sada se pridružuje Afganistanu, Pakistanu i Siriji koje se bore sa slučajevima dječje paralize.
