Nikola Tesla je sin pravoslavnog svećenika iz Smiljana u Lici. Nije mu samo otac Milutin bio pop, već i djed Nikola, pa se očekivalo da će i on nastaviti obiteljsku tradiciju. Nikola Tesla kršten je u srpskoj pravoslavnoj crkvi sv. Petra i Pavla u Smiljanu. 

Nikolina majka Georgina ili kako su je zvali - Đuka, također dolazi iz svećenićke obitelji Mandić. Đuka se nije školovala već se brinula o djeci, Nikoli i njegovoj braći i sestrama: Milki, Angelini i Mariji Marici te mlađem mu bratu Danilu ili Dani, koji je poginuo pri padu s konja.

Nikola je bio četvrto dijete po redu u obitelji Tesla. Sestru Milka mu je udana Glumičić, Angelina Tesla udajom je "uzela" prezime Trbojević, a Marija Marica - Kosanović.

Tesla je u Smiljanu, podno brda Bogdanić gdje se danas nalazi memorijalni centar podignut u njegovu čast, živio samo tri godine. Kuća obitelji Tesla smještena je odmah uz parohijalnu crkvu. Milutin Tesla je 1859. prebačen na službu u Gospić, gdje se s njim preselila i obitelj.

Nikola je u Gospiću pohađao osnovnu školu te bio zvonar i štec (čitač op. a) u mjesnoj crkvi u kojoj je službovao njegov otac prota Milutin.

Prvi puta se za pametnog Nikolu pročulo kad gospićki vatrogasci nisu uspijevali ispumpati vodu iz rijeke Like. Na pokaznoj vježbi, koju je organizirao jedan veletrgovac, okupilo se puno svijeta, a sva sila stručnjaka i "stručnjaka" nije mogla riješiti taj problem. Pumpa nije vukla vodu sve dok se mali Nikola, a bilo mu je sedam, osam godina, nije spustio u rijeku i jednostavno odčepio drugi kraj crijeva. Svi su ga slavili kao heroja dana, a to će ga iskustvo na neki način usmjeriti prema studiju tehnike, koji će upisati nakon Velike realke koju je završio u Rakovcu.

Odmah nakon mature, Nikola Tesla se vratio u Gospić i razbolio od kolere. Bolovao je dugih devet mjeseci, pa su se roditelji silno zabrinuli. Otac je htio da Nikola postane svećenik i ne odlazi daleko od kuće, jer ga je puno pogodila smrt sina Danila. Htio je da Nikola bude uz roditelje pod stare dane, no on ga je izmolio da umjesto za svećenika, ipak krene na studije tehnike u Graz.

Nikola Tesla je sin pravoslavnog svećenika iz Smiljana u Lici. Nije mu samo otac Milutin bio pop, već i djed Nikola, pa se očekivalo da će i on nastaviti obiteljsku tradiciju. Nikola Tesla kršten je u srpskoj pravoslavnoj crkvi sv. Petra i Pavla u Smiljanu. 

Nikolina majka Georgina ili kako su je zvali - Đuka, također dolazi iz svećenićke obitelji Mandić. Đuka se nije školovala već se brinula o djeci, Nikoli i njegovoj braći i sestrama: Milki, Angelini i Mariji Marici te mlađem mu bratu Danilu ili Dani, koji je poginuo pri padu s konja.

Nikola je bio četvrto dijete po redu u obitelji Tesla. Sestru Milka mu je udana Glumičić, Angelina Tesla udajom je "uzela" prezime Trbojević, a Marija Marica - Kosanović.

Tesla je u Smiljanu, podno brda Bogdanić gdje se danas nalazi memorijalni centar podignut u njegovu čast, živio samo tri godine. Kuća obitelji Tesla smještena je odmah uz parohijalnu crkvu. Milutin Tesla je 1859. prebačen na službu u Gospić, gdje se s njim preselila i obitelj.

Nikola je u Gospiću pohađao osnovnu školu te bio zvonar i štec (čitač op. a) u mjesnoj crkvi u kojoj je službovao njegov otac prota Milutin.

Prvi puta se za pametnog Nikolu pročulo kad gospićki vatrogasci nisu uspijevali ispumpati vodu iz rijeke Like. Na pokaznoj vježbi, koju je organizirao jedan veletrgovac, okupilo se puno svijeta, a sva sila stručnjaka i "stručnjaka" nije mogla riješiti taj problem. Pumpa nije vukla vodu sve dok se mali Nikola, a bilo mu je sedam, osam godina, nije spustio u rijeku i jednostavno odčepio drugi kraj crijeva. Svi su ga slavili kao heroja dana, a to će ga iskustvo na neki način usmjeriti prema studiju tehnike, koji će upisati nakon Velike realke koju je završio u Rakovcu.

Odmah nakon mature, Nikola Tesla se vratio u Gospić i razbolio od kolere. Bolovao je dugih devet mjeseci, pa su se roditelji silno zabrinuli. Otac je htio da Nikola postane svećenik i ne odlazi daleko od kuće, jer ga je puno pogodila smrt sina Danila. Htio je da Nikola bude uz roditelje pod stare dane, no on ga je izmolio da umjesto za svećenika, ipak krene na studije tehnike u Graz.

Nikola Tesla je sin pravoslavnog svećenika iz Smiljana u Lici. Nije mu samo otac Milutin bio pop, već i djed Nikola, pa se očekivalo da će i on nastaviti obiteljsku tradiciju. Nikola Tesla kršten je u srpskoj pravoslavnoj crkvi sv. Petra i Pavla u Smiljanu. 

Nikolina majka Georgina ili kako su je zvali - Đuka, također dolazi iz svećenićke obitelji Mandić. Đuka se nije školovala već se brinula o djeci, Nikoli i njegovoj braći i sestrama: Milki, Angelini i Mariji Marici te mlađem mu bratu Danilu ili Dani, koji je poginuo pri padu s konja.
