Virus Zaadnog Nila od kojeg je preminula glumica Mira Furlan prvi put je izoliran 1937. iz krvi žene u provinciji Zapadnog Nila u Ugandi. Infekcija ovim virusom najčešće protječe bez simptoma, a procjenjuje se da jedna od pet inficiranih osoba razvija febrilnu bolest, dok će jedna od 150 inficiranih razviti sliku meningitisa ili encefalitisa, stoji na stranicama HZJZ-a.

Virus Zapadnog Nila se prenosi na ljude preko uboda inficiranog komarca i dosad je izoliran kod 43 vrste komaraca, najčešće kod roda Culex, ali i kod Aedes albopicitusa i Anophelesa, triju vrsta koje su prisutne i na našem području. Komarac se zarazi kad ubode pticu (najčešće divlju pticu selicu) koja je zaražena virusom. Čovjek se ne može zaraziti virusom u kontaktu s oboljelom osobom. Ne postoji ni dokaz da krpelji ili drugi insekti prenose virus Zapadnog Nila. Ljudi, konji i neki drugi kralježnjaci su u prijenosu virusa slijepe ulice i kod njih se virus ne može dalje širiti.

Bolest se pojavljuje u ljetnim i jesenskim mjesecima. Na sezonsku pojavnost i kretanje ove bolesti na nekom području odnosno na epidemiološku situaciju utječu brojni čimbenici: brojnost i aktivnost vektora uzročnika bolesti ovisno o okolišnim i klimatološkim prilikama. Infekcija virusom Zapadnog Nila u ljudi najčešće prolazi bez simptoma (u približno 70 – 80 posto slučajeva). U oko 20 posto slučajeva se bolest manifestira simptomima koji nalikuju gripi kao što su povišena temperatura, glavobolja, slabost, bol u mišićima i zglobovima.

U oko jedan posto oboljelih se može razviti teža bolest zbog zahvaćenosti središnjeg živčanog sustava, uz simptome meningitisa ili encefalitisa (upale moždanih ovojnica/mozga). Pod povećanim su rizikom od obolijevanja starije osobe koje već imaju kroničnu bolest (kao primjerice dijabetes, hipertenziju, kroničnu bubrežnu bolest) ili imunosuprimirane osobe (kao što su transplantirane osobe).

Oboljeli se liječe simptomatski i većina ih se oporavi bez trajnih posljedica. Da bi se smanjio rizik od infekcije važno je provoditi mjere suzbijanja komaraca i njihovih legla.

Virus Zaadnog Nila od kojeg je preminula glumica Mira Furlan prvi put je izoliran 1937. iz krvi žene u provinciji Zapadnog Nila u Ugandi. Infekcija ovim virusom najčešće protječe bez simptoma, a procjenjuje se da jedna od pet inficiranih osoba razvija febrilnu bolest, dok će jedna od 150 inficiranih razviti sliku meningitisa ili encefalitisa, stoji na stranicama HZJZ-a.

Virus Zapadnog Nila se prenosi na ljude preko uboda inficiranog komarca i dosad je izoliran kod 43 vrste komaraca, najčešće kod roda Culex, ali i kod Aedes albopicitusa i Anophelesa, triju vrsta koje su prisutne i na našem području. Komarac se zarazi kad ubode pticu (najčešće divlju pticu selicu) koja je zaražena virusom. Čovjek se ne može zaraziti virusom u kontaktu s oboljelom osobom. Ne postoji ni dokaz da krpelji ili drugi insekti prenose virus Zapadnog Nila. Ljudi, konji i neki drugi kralježnjaci su u prijenosu virusa slijepe ulice i kod njih se virus ne može dalje širiti.

Bolest se pojavljuje u ljetnim i jesenskim mjesecima. Na sezonsku pojavnost i kretanje ove bolesti na nekom području odnosno na epidemiološku situaciju utječu brojni čimbenici: brojnost i aktivnost vektora uzročnika bolesti ovisno o okolišnim i klimatološkim prilikama. Infekcija virusom Zapadnog Nila u ljudi najčešće prolazi bez simptoma (u približno 70 – 80 posto slučajeva). U oko 20 posto slučajeva se bolest manifestira simptomima koji nalikuju gripi kao što su povišena temperatura, glavobolja, slabost, bol u mišićima i zglobovima.

U oko jedan posto oboljelih se može razviti teža bolest zbog zahvaćenosti središnjeg živčanog sustava, uz simptome meningitisa ili encefalitisa (upale moždanih ovojnica/mozga). Pod povećanim su rizikom od obolijevanja starije osobe koje već imaju kroničnu bolest (kao primjerice dijabetes, hipertenziju, kroničnu bubrežnu bolest) ili imunosuprimirane osobe (kao što su transplantirane osobe).

Oboljeli se liječe simptomatski i većina ih se oporavi bez trajnih posljedica. Da bi se smanjio rizik od infekcije važno je provoditi mjere suzbijanja komaraca i njihovih legla.

Virus Zaadnog Nila od kojeg je preminula glumica Mira Furlan prvi put je izoliran 1937. iz krvi žene u provinciji Zapadnog Nila u Ugandi. Infekcija ovim virusom najčešće protječe bez simptoma, a procjenjuje se da jedna od pet inficiranih osoba razvija febrilnu bolest, dok će jedna od 150 inficiranih razviti sliku meningitisa ili encefalitisa, stoji na stranicama HZJZ-a.

Virus Zapadnog Nila se prenosi na ljude preko uboda inficiranog komarca i dosad je izoliran kod 43 vrste komaraca, najčešće kod roda Culex, ali i kod Aedes albopicitusa i Anophelesa, triju vrsta koje su prisutne i na našem području. Komarac se zarazi kad ubode pticu (najčešće divlju pticu selicu) koja je zaražena virusom. Čovjek se ne može zaraziti virusom u kontaktu s oboljelom osobom. Ne postoji ni dokaz da krpelj...
